fun TEXAS facts
Here are some Texas facts for you to digest… (pics below!)
Texas is so big that…
- it is bigger than all 14 of these states put together: RI, DE, CT, NJ, NH, VT, MA, HI, MD, WV, SC, ME, IN, and KY
- it is also bigger than all these states put together: TN, VA, OH, PA, and MS
- it is even bigger than all these states put together: LA, AL, AR, NC, and NY
(By the way, those 24 states listed above, from RI to NY, are in order from smallest to largest, if you could call NY “large”, that is. See the map down below.)
Everything’s big in Texas! (except the income tax, that is — we ain’t got one)
Texas is divided into no less than 254 counties. Texas’ biggest county, Brewster, at 6193 square miles, is nearly double the size of DC and RI and DE put together, and is also larger than CT. The population of Brewster county is less than 10,000 people, making the population density less than 2 people per square mile. (The average population density in the U.S. is about 80 people per square mile.)
A number of Texas counties are larger than RI and DE, and some of them have a lower population density than even Brewster. Notable among them is relatively small Culberson county, at a mere 3812 square miles (barely smaller than RI and DE put together) with a whopping 2826 people, which computes to 0.75 people per square mile. Lil’ ol’ Terrell county, at 2358 sq mi (about the size of DE), is home to a mere 911 people, making the population density less than 0.4 people per sq mi. Then there is Kenedy county, just a hair smaller than RI at 1457 sq mi, which boasts the amazing population of 404 hardy Texans, or 0.28 lonely folks per sq mi.
